After the firing process ends and cooling begins, conventional silicon dioxide crucibles undergo crystallization as well, becoming brittle crystalline. This phase transition causes them to break. For this reason, silicon crucibles may be used only once, a significant factor in ingot production costs.
In contrast, Steuler Solar high performance silicon nitride reusable ceramic crucibles are virtually chemically inert. This allows them to withstand several runs of silicon crystallizations, greatly reducing crucible cost outlays.
